O Gentle Giant é uma banda britânica de rock progressivo formada em 1970. Os músicos, tinham com inspiração musical, rock, jazz, música medieval, música clássica, dentre outros. A banda lançou 11 albuns de estúdio e um ao vivo oficial, não ficaram famosos assim como a maioria dos grupos progressivos e nem conseguiram algum destaque como Genesis, Yes ou Emerson, Lake and Palmer, porém se tornaram uma das maiores lendas do rock progressivo dos ano 70 e são considerados por alguns admiradores do gênero como a melhor de todas as bandas que seguiam o estilo que por si só é uma lenda da música e do rock, embora seja bastante impopular. O Gentle Giant terminou em 1980, em um momento que o rock progressivo era 'engolido' por estilos de maior apelo e aceitação como o post punk e o new wave dos 'trágicos' anos 80. Os Gentle Giant, preferiram não prosseguir para essa década ao invés da maioria das bandas que continuaram e tem alguns discos 'abominados' pelos fãs. O Gentle Giant deixou um trabalho perfeito e acabou quando tinha que acabar, deixando uma obra vasta e rica para o seu público da época e para os atuais.
